CLIMBING MAGAZINE
Adventures in Typography
I have been an avid rock climber for most of my life. At 16 years old, I placed sixth at the Junior World Championships in Basel, Switzerland (little did I know of that city’s storied place in the history of graphic design!). I even published a ’zine about climbing in high school. Many years later, I would combine my love of climbing with my skills in design and typography when I served as the Art Director of Climbing Magazine, and its sister publications Urban Climber and Mountain Gazette. To tell gripping tales of vertical exploits, I often pushed the typography to extremes, similar to how I pushed myself as an athlete.
Role: Art direction, design, typography
“Andy brought an eye to the design that resonated then and still resonates today, with some of the most classic issues I've ever had the pleasure of working on.”
